MP 309.9 5th Subdivision -

The area known as St. Joseph is now at the north end of the urban sprawl of New Albany, IN. The village was founded as a German Catholic community sometime around 1846. It was first called St. Joseph Hill for devotional reasons as well as the hilly country side. The 1915 inventory indicates that there was a boxcar body depot.
