Bloomfield is the County Seat of Greene County and was founded and platted in 1824. It was named by Dr. Hallet B. Dean for his birthplace, Bloomfield, New Jersey. Peter Van Slake Sr, a local distiller, donated 62 acres for the creation of the town. The first Post Office was established in 1825. The concrete just north of the right of way is where the depot was located. The Indiana RR (former Illinois Central) right of way is to the north,far right side of the photo. A tavern was once located between the Monon depot and the IC tracks. convenient, eh? Right: Depot location, looking east along Judson St. The south lane of Judson St. is on the right of way. The tracks turned southeast near the blue shed.
