1 - The remains of Bridge 241.3. Looking north toward Chicago. See also 1 in the Thornton Siding picture set. 2 - By far the most interesting find of the day, this sign survives just south of Bridge 241.3. The top sign says END ORLEANS DTC BLOCK and the bottom sign says BEGIN MURDOCK DTC BLOCK. Looking north toward Chicago. 3 - The reverse side of the sign is much easier to read, but I wasn't able to get as close. Looking south toward Louisville. 4 - The north corner of the Murdock wye. Mainline is on the left side. Looking south toward Louisville. 5 - The south corner of the Murdock wye. Mainline is on the right side. Looking north toward Chicago. 6 - The west corner of the Murdock wye. Left side turns north, right side turns south. 7 - Pretty much the entirety of the Murdock branch line still has ties in place, even in the yard to an extent. 8 - The east end of the yard, not much to see other than some ties here and there and a bunch of trees. Looking away from the mainline. 9 - Taken from approximately the center of the yard, looking toward the mainline. The only reason I know this was the yard is that there are multiple parallel lines of ties in some places here. 10 - Taken from approximately the center of the yard, looking away from the mainline. Note the pile of ties in the bottom right corner. 11 - The west end of the yard, looking toward the mainline. 12 - At the northwest corner of the yard, there were these foundations. Don't know what they were, maybe not even railroad related, but they were there so click goes the camera. 13 - The foundations were too wide to fit in one picture, so here's the rest of them. 14 - Steve Stafford's 2006 picture of the Salt Creek bridge got my hopes up that I could cross it. I could not. Looking away from the mainline. 15 - Taken from the Murdock Street crossing. Looking north toward Chicago. 16 - The Murdock Street crossing. Looking south toward Louisville. 17 - Taken from the Peerless Road crossing. Looking north toward Chicago. 18 - The Peerless Road crossing. Looking south toward Louisville. |
