Electro-Motive Division (EMD), General Motors Corporation
provided some sketches of proposed color schemes in anticipation of the
dieslization on the Monon. All designs were based on the black, red and
gold color scheme and the lozenge herald.
The Monon decided against E units.
They opted for F units for the passenger trains in order to keep all
the weight on the powered axles. The Indianapolis line (Second Subdivision)
would have been the only part of the railroad suitable for E units. Amtrak
learned this lesson during the 1970's and 1980's.
