Grand Trunk Western Images, Page Five

The Photography of Dr. Louis Marre

The images on this page are the great work of Dr. Louis Marre. Through a good friend, Dan Lawecki, who provided these Marre photographs for me to scan, I am please to add them to my Grand Trunk Western Ghost Lines page.

Left: October 1959. Westbound freight passing through South Bend. Train has just passed Union Station. Right: Eastbound passenger passing the Studebaker Office building, downtown South Bend, October 1959.

Left: Another shot of the passenger, October 1959. Not 100% sure of this location. I believe it is between Mishawaka and Granger. Right: September 1959 finds this mixed lash up of motive power coming on the "high line", at High Street, of elevated track they shared with the NYC.

Westbound passenger arriving at Union Station, November 1960.

Left and Right: Night arrival of passenger train #14 in South Bend, May 29, 1959.

Left: Alco switcher near the Ford Street roundhouse, June 1965. The unit was previously numbered 7915 and was the first Alco purchased by the GTW in 1942.
